LIONEL MESSI has revealed how Barcelona?s twin cancer heartaches derailed their bid for Treble glory.
Barcelona were last week knocked out of the Spanish Cup by Real Madrid and trail AC Milan 2-0 after the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
Boss Tito Vilanova is undergoing treatment for a tumour on his parotid gland while Eric Abidal has only recently returned following a liver transplant.
And Messi said: ?It affected us a lot and I think it has had its toll on the way we?ve performed in competitions.
?But we?re a tough squad and we can?t go using that as an excuse?.
Abidal is back in the Barcelona reckoning after having his emergency op in March 2011.
And four-time Ballon D?Or winner Messi added: ?Everything he has done, the way he has fought to get back, it?s so admirable.
