The big entertainment guns are coming out for summer. "Prometheus," the long-awaited new film in the "Alien" universe, is about to hit theaters, and the vampires of "True Blood" will heat up your TVs once again. And it's time to bid farewell to the swinging 1960s ad men and women of "Mad Men," as that show's season finale is about to air.
FRIDAY: 'Prometheus'
Few films are as chilling as "Alien" and its sequel,?"Aliens," Fans of those films are eagerly anticipating director Ridley Scott's return to the terrifying universe of face-huggers and the other acid-for-blood predators that still haunt our dreams. While technically "Prometheus" isn't a sequel or prequel to those earlier films, it takes place in their universe and shares some elements of the earlier movies. Great, just what we need, more nightmare fuel.?(Opens June 8.)
SUNDAY: 'Mad Men' season finale
Didn't the "Mad Men" season just start? After a delayed start due to a contract squabble, it?s hard to believe we?re already closing the books on season five at Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Price. There?s plenty to wrap up as Peggy leaves the firm, Lane keeps angling for that bonus money, Betty works to get the weight off, Pete battles suburban angst and Don tries to keep the ?happily? in front of "married." (June 10, 10 p.m., AMC.)
SUNDAY: 'True Blood' returns
Just as the ad men exit, the vamps of Bon Temps roll back in. "True Blood" fans only need two words to get them excited about the return of the sexy HBO vampire drama: Chris Meloni. The former ?Law & Order: SVU? star joins the cast as vampire Roman, the head of?The?Authority. Truebies are also excited about the return of the deliciously evil Russell Edgington, Vampire King of Mississippi. (June 10, 9 p.m., HBO.)
